ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland individual taxpayers will soon gain access to a modern, user-friendly online portal for managing their taxes. The Office of the Comptroller of Maryland announced that Maryland Tax Connect will expand to serve personal filers beginning September 1, 2026, representing the first comprehensive modernization of the state’s tax infrastructure in more than 30 years.

Businesses already use Maryland Tax Connect for filing returns, managing accounts, and communicating with the Comptroller’s office. The expansion will bring similar capabilities to individuals, including filing income tax returns, making estimated payments, setting up payment plans, viewing real-time account balances, and accessing complete filing and notice history. The portal will be free to use and available to all Maryland individual taxpayers.

“This is one of the most significant technology investments Maryland has made in a generation,” Comptroller officials stated. The transition is scheduled for late August, when tax activity is typically at its lowest, to reduce potential disruption. During the final data migration from the legacy mainframe to a new cloud-based system, most services will be temporarily unavailable in late July and August. Taxpayers with obligations in August are encouraged to act before applicable deadlines.

Key transition dates include:

  • July 24: Last day for in-person paper check payments at branch offices for personal income, pass-through entity, and fiduciary taxes.
  • July 29: Final day (by 11:59 p.m.) for individuals to electronically file returns or make payments via the current website.
  • August 20: Last day for businesses to file and pay electronically via Maryland Tax Connect.
  • August 21–31: All systems unavailable for final migration. E-check and credit card payments will be accepted but posted after September 1.
  • September 1: Maryland Tax Connect for individuals goes live.

The new portal promises enhanced self-service features without the need for frequent office contact. Officials are expanding FAQs and sharing information through multiple channels to help taxpayers prepare. Full details, including a complete schedule and common questions, are available at MarylandComptroller.gov/IndividualTaxHub.

This modernization effort aims to improve efficiency, accessibility, and accuracy in tax administration while supporting the state’s commitment to better customer service. Southern Maryland residents, like all Marylanders, are encouraged to review their accounts and plan ahead during the transition period.

The Comptroller’s Office will continue providing updates in the coming weeks. Taxpayers with questions should consult the dedicated hub or contact the office through available channels once services resume.
