PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools is celebrating another national success as Northern High School rising junior Ada Marciniak earned fifth place in the nation in Insurance and Risk Management at the 2026 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference.
The event, held June 29 through July 2 in San Antonio, Texas, brought together thousands of students from across the country to compete in business and leadership events. Marciniak’s achievement underscores the strength of career and technical education programs available to Calvert County students.
The Insurance and Risk Management competition tested participants’ knowledge of how individuals and organizations identify, evaluate and manage risk through insurance products and strategic planning. Topics included property and liability insurance, health and life insurance, ethical decision-making and business risk management. The event aligns with the Financial Services Career Cluster and emphasizes analytical skills for protecting assets.
“Northern High School is incredibly proud of Ada and the way she represented our school on the national stage,” said Principal Dr. Kevin Simmons. “Earning a fifth-place national finish is an outstanding accomplishment and reflects her dedication, hard work, and exceptional intellect. Ada is an incredible young woman, and we are proud of the commitment to excellence she demonstrates both in and out of the classroom.”
FBLA events expose students to diverse business concepts and career pathways, including finance, cybersecurity, healthcare administration, business law and leadership. Marciniak’s success highlights opportunities available through the organization and Calvert County’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
The district offers 25 CTE pathways, including Business Management and Entrepreneurship at each comprehensive high school. FBLA, a nationally recognized Career and Technical Student Organization, complements classroom learning by providing leadership development, competitive events, career exploration and real-world experiences. Participation is open to all students.
Calvert County Public Schools Superintendent Marcus J. Newsome and district leaders commend students like Marciniak for embodying the skills and professionalism needed for future success. Such achievements bring pride to the community while demonstrating the effectiveness of local educational programs.
The conference provided Marciniak and other competitors valuable experiences in networking, skill-building and exposure to national-level competition. Her performance continues a strong tradition of FBLA excellence from Calvert County schools.
