WALDORF, Md. — Charles County fire officials are investigating a small intentionally set fire in an apartment building stairwell that caused minimal damage Monday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:01 p.m. on July 14, 2026, at 3000 Gallery Place. Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department responded with one alarm, involving approximately 40 firefighters. The fire was brought under control within five minutes.

No injuries or deaths were reported, and no residents were displaced. Estimated damage was $500 to the structure with no loss to contents. Smoke alarms and fire suppression systems were not a factor in the incident.

The fire was discovered by tenants in the stairwell area. The Office of the State Fire Marshal – Southern Region is leading the investigation.
