LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A repeat offender with a history of felony convictions was sentenced to 41 years in prison, with 21 years of active incarceration, for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and fleeing and eluding police in St. Mary’s County.
State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced the sentence for David Leroy Harvey, Jr., 33, of Great Mills, following his conviction.
“This marks the Defendant’s third felony drug conviction. At the time of this offense, Mr. Harvey had been out of prison for just two months and on supervised probation from another county for robbery when he chose to commit yet another felony,” said State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling. “Repeat offenders who continue to engage in criminal activity despite prior judicial intervention pose some of the most significant safety risks to our community and must be held accountable accordingly.”
The case stemmed from a traffic stop on February 21, 2026, in the area of Pegg Road and Westbury Boulevard in Lexington Park. Deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office identified Harvey as the driver. A K-9 alert led to a search, during which officers located two large bags of cocaine and $4,661 in cash. Harvey fled on foot and jumped into a pond in an attempt to evade arrest.
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Lisa Ridge prosecuted the case. Former Deputy Bianca Melton served as the lead investigator. The Honorable Amy Lorenzini presided over the sentencing.
The conviction and sentence underscore the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office commitment to addressing repeat offenders and protecting public safety. Authorities continue to urge community members to report suspicious activity to help keep neighborhoods safe.
