Calvert County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a Washington, D.C., man in connection with a stabbing that occurred during a fireworks gathering in North Beach on July 4.
Deputies responded to the 4000 block of 3rd Street around 10:47 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. A preliminary investigation determined that an argument among a group setting off fireworks escalated into violence.
The victim, identified as Tarvio Lavey Jenkins, 45, of Sunderland, suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Deputies provided immediate lifesaving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Jenkins was transported to a regional trauma center and remains in stable condition.
Following an extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau, detectives identified Keith Lord Ghee, 52, of Washington, D.C., as the suspect. Ghee was located and arrested without incident. He faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault. He is being held at the Calvert County Detention Center.
The incident occurred in a residential area of North Beach, a popular waterfront community in Calvert County known for summer celebrations. Authorities noted the importance of de-escalating conflicts, particularly during holiday gatherings involving fireworks.
