The Chesapeake Baysox earned their fourth walk-off victory of the season Tuesday night, defeating the Erie SeaWolves 7-6 in 11 innings at Prince George’s Stadium.
In the bottom of the eleventh, Anderson De Los Santos scored from third base on a wild pitch to give Chesapeake (13-8) the win in its third straight victory. The dramatic finish followed Erie’s three-run ninth inning that forced extra frames. Baysox right-hander Jeisson Cabrera pitched two scoreless innings in the tenth and eleventh to earn the win.
Chesapeake built leads throughout the first nine innings, highlighted by Brandon Butterworth’s two home runs in back-to-back at-bats — his first multi-home run game with the Baysox.
Erie scored first in the third inning on an RBI single by Andrew Jenkins off Chesapeake starter Evan Yates. Yates worked out of several jams, allowing just one run in a no-decision. The Orioles prospect went three innings, striking out four while issuing three walks.
The Baysox responded with four runs in the fourth. Butterworth led off the frame with a solo homer against Erie starter Carlos Peña to tie the game at 1-1. Anderson De Los Santos and Aron Estrada then reached base before Thomas Sosa hit a three-run homer — his 11th of the season — to give Chesapeake a 4-1 lead.
Butterworth added another solo shot in the sixth, his seventh homer of the season, extending the lead to 5-1. The outfielder is hitting .357 with three home runs in nine games since his activation on July 7.
Erie chipped away with runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Chesapeake relievers Alex Pham and Ryan Long limited the damage to two runs despite bases-loaded situations.
The Baysox regained a 6-2 lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Willy Vasquez. Vasquez is batting .500 with three RBI in three games since the All-Star break.
Erie tied the game in the ninth with back-to-back home runs by Justice Bigbie and Jenkins.
In the eleventh, Cabrera threw out a go-ahead runner at the plate before De Los Santos scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Erie’s Wandisson Charles.
Chesapeake continues its six-game series against Erie Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium.
