One resident was displaced after a late-night fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage to a Lexington Park home Monday, according to a preliminary investigation notice.
The fire was reported at approximately 10:45 p.m. at a single-family home at 21552 Port Court. Investigators said the fire originated on the rear deck, although its cause had not been determined as of Tuesday.
The homeowner discovered the fire and escaped from the residence without injury. No other injuries were reported, and no arrests had been made.
Forty firefighters responded to the one-alarm fire. The primary responding departments were the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, Naval Air Station Patuxent River and the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters needed approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control, according to the notice.
Investigators estimated that the fire caused approximately $100,000 in structural damage and another $50,000 in damage to the home’s contents. The estimates place the combined loss at approximately $150,000.
The notice listed the home’s smoke-alarm status and fire alarm or sprinkler status as not applicable. It did not provide additional information explaining those classifications.
The investigation remains open, and no preliminary cause has been released.
