The Chesapeake Baysox swept a Wednesday doubleheader from the Harrisburg Senators behind a four-homer outburst in the opener and a tight pitching performance in the nightcap, with newly promoted infielder Wehiwa Aloy delivering the headline moment of the day.
Chesapeake (20-15 in the second half, 49-54 overall) took the first game 8-1, powered entirely by home runs, before winning game two 2-1 on a trio of third-inning doubles backed by another strong outing from the Baysox pitching staff. Harrisburg is the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals; Chesapeake plays as the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles out of Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.
Aloy, who was hitless the first three batters of the game before the Baysox came to bat, hit the first two Double-A home runs of his career in the opener, both off Harrisburg starter Alex Clemmey. After Doug Hodo and Brandon Butterworth singled to open Chesapeake’s half of the first, Aloy drove a 421-foot shot to left field to erase Harrisburg’s early 1-0 lead. He added a second homer in the fourth inning, a 112 mph line drive to left, to finish the game 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Aloy, the Orioles’ 2025 first-round pick out of Arkansas and that year’s Golden Spikes Award winner as college baseball’s top player, was hitting .300 with 15 home runs and 69 RBI at High-A Frederick when the organization promoted him to Chesapeake on July 28, along with fellow infielder Victor Figueroa and pitchers Caden Hunter and Joe Glassey. Wednesday’s two-homer game marked his second multi-homer performance since turning pro.
Anderson De Los Santos added a two-run homer in the third inning for his 10th of the season, and Brandon Butterworth followed with a two-run shot of his own in the fourth, also his 10th, as part of Chesapeake’s four-home-run day. Left-hander Sebastian Gongora (9-6) carried the win in the opener, allowing just the first-inning run and four hits across five innings while retiring his final 12 batters faced. Right-handers Gerald Ogando and Alex Pham each added a scoreless inning of relief.
Game two turned on a four-batter sequence in the third inning, when Frederick Bencosme led off with a double, scored two batters later on a Tavian Josenberger hit, and Aron Estrada added his team-leading 19th double of the season on a well-placed ground ball down the right-field line. Baysox starter Christian Herberholz turned in his best outing of the season, tossing five scoreless innings — his longest stint with Chesapeake this year — while allowing three hits and no walks.
Harrisburg’s Braden Boissiere cut the deficit to 2-1 with a sixth-inning solo homer off reliever Keagan Gillies, but the lead held into the seventh, when right-hander Brock Moore made his organizational debut in a save situation and closed it out. Moore, 26, was one of three pitchers the Orioles acquired from the Seattle Mariners in a trade-deadline deal that sent outfielder Taylor Ward to Seattle, along with right-handers Alex Hoppe and Harrison Kreiling. Moore had pitched at Double-A in Seattle’s system before the trade and picked up his first strikeout in the Orioles organization Wednesday.
Across both games, six Chesapeake pitchers combined to allow just two earned runs over 14 innings, a 1.29 ERA for the set. The sweep pushed the Baysox to 20-15 in Eastern League second-half play as the club continues developing a wave of recently promoted prospects, including Aloy, alongside veterans like Doug Hodo and Anderson De Los Santos.
Chesapeake is back in action Thursday against Harrisburg, with left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (2-1, 2.28 ERA) starting opposite Senators lefty Josh Hartle (4-4, 3.86 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.
