Two firefighters were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a house fire broke out in the 42000 block of Woodbury Place in Leonardtown early Monday morning, according to the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department.
Crews were alerted at approximately 6:53 a.m. The first-arriving officer found a two-story single-family home with heavy smoke showing. After circling the building to assess the scene, crews found a camper fully involved in flames at the rear of the house, with fire spreading to the deck and the side of the home, and smoke visible inside.
One engine crew established its own water supply and stretched a 400-foot hoseline to the rear of the property to attack the fire on the house and camper, while command was notified of heavy fire in the attic. A truck company arrived shortly after and set up multiple ground ladders around the building while crews began operations on the second floor.
The fire was marked under control at 7:48 a.m., about 55 minutes after the initial call. Crews remained on scene afterward assisting investigators from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, who is handling the cause investigation.
Ten mutual aid units responded to assist, including Hollywood VFD, Ridge VFD, Second District VFD, Seventh District VFD, Bay District VFD, two companies from Naval District Washington, St. Leonard VFD, Solomons VFD, and Prince Frederick VFD.
