Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland (CTSMD) has become a licensed center for Music Together® and Rhythm Kids® classes, bringing the internationally recognized early-childhood music program to Prince Frederick starting this fall.
The eight-week fall session runs Sept. 4 through Oct. 24, with two age-based class options offered both Friday and Saturday mornings. Music Together’s Mixed Ages classes are designed for children from birth through age 5 along with a caregiver, meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Rhythm Kids, aimed at children ages 4 through 8, follows immediately after from 11 a.m. to noon. Both classes are taught by CTSMD music teacher Jessi Jordan, known to families as Ms. Jessi, using a rotating collection of instruments, scarves, and songs.
Tuition for either program is $245 for a family’s first child, which includes take-home materials, and $200 for each additional sibling. Music Together requires a caregiver to remain in the room for the full class; Rhythm Kids allows caregivers to either stay or drop their child off.
Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987, coauthored by Kenneth K. Guilmartin and Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz, a professor emerita of music education at Rowan University. The program is now taught at licensed centers in thousands of communities across dozens of countries, with a curriculum built around the idea that all children can learn to sing in tune and keep a beat if their early environment supports it, and that caregiver participation in music-making at home reinforces what happens in the classroom.
