A new automated speed enforcement camera will go active Aug. 18 in a school zone in Severn, Anne Arundel County police announced.
The camera will be installed near Annapolis Area Christian Upper and Middle School on Burns Crossing Road. It will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, in line with the county’s standard hours for school-zone cameras, and is intended to reduce vehicle speeds and promote safer driving near schools.
Drivers won’t receive citations right away. As with other new camera locations, the county will observe a 15-day warning period before issuing tickets.
This is a separate camera location from the one already in place at Annapolis Area Christian School’s other campus on Bestgate Road in Annapolis, which has been active since July 2024. The Severn location is at the school’s Burns Crossing Road campus.
The new camera comes amid a broader expansion of the county’s speed camera network. Anne Arundel County has separately announced it is shifting most of its speed cameras to a 24-hour, seven-day operating schedule, though school-zone cameras like this one continue to follow the standard weekday, daytime hours tied to school activity.
Residents can find information about the county’s Automated Traffic Enforcement Speed Program, including a map of all active camera locations, on the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s website.
