Calvert County Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is asking residents to weigh in on the redesign of the skate park at Dunkirk District Park before an online survey closes Sept. 11 — about three and a half weeks from now.
The skate park has served the community for more than two decades. CCPR’s planned overhaul will replace its aging features with an updated space built for current and future users, with funding for design and construction already set aside in the Fiscal Year 2027 Capital Improvement Plan budget. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.
Survey responses will directly shape which features and amenities make it into the final design. CCPR says the goal is a welcoming, durable space for skateboarders, BMX riders, inline skaters, scooter riders and other wheeled-sports users of all ages and skill levels.
The project follows years of community interest in the park’s condition, including a public petition describing its ramps as worn and its surface as cracked. It also comes as CCPR has been investing elsewhere at Dunkirk District Park, recently adding new tennis and pickleball courts. Countywide, resident satisfaction with parks and recreation amenities scored 74% in the county’s latest community survey, up seven points from the prior one.
Residents who want a say in the redesign can complete the survey at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/SkateParkSurvey. It closes Sept. 11.
