The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing two moments of community support this month.
Brighton Bowie, a junior at Northern High School, organized a stuffed animal drive that collected nearly 30 new stuffed animals for the department. The animals will be placed in patrol vehicles across each district, giving deputies something to offer children they encounter during emergencies or traumatic situations. Sheriff Ricky Cox and the Sheriff’s Office thanked Bowie for the donation, which School Community Outreach Officer Jessica Jones accepted on the agency’s behalf.

Separately, Sheriff’s Deputy Cam Chase was recognized as a 2026 Hometown Hero during a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs game Aug. 14 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. Chase threw out one of the game’s first pitches and was honored by fans in attendance. Sheriff Cox and the department thanked Chase for his service to the community.
