Southern Maryland residents can expect a mostly sunny and comfortable day Tuesday, Aug. 25, with temperatures in the mid-80s and little to no chance of rain.
The National Weather Service forecasts highs near 85 degrees in Prince Frederick, 86 in Waldorf and 84 in Leonardtown, with light northwest winds generally between 3 and 7 mph.
The weather should make for favorable conditions across Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties as students head to school, commuters travel to work and residents take advantage of outdoor activities.
Morning temperatures will begin much cooler, with overnight lows Monday night falling into the low 60s. Leonardtown is expected to drop to around 62 degrees, Waldorf to about 61, and Prince Frederick to around 62 before temperatures climb quickly under sunny skies Tuesday.
Winds should remain light through the day. Leonardtown is forecast to see northwest winds from 3 to 5 mph, while Waldorf could see northwest winds from 3 to 7 mph. Prince Frederick is expected to have northwest winds between 3 and 6 mph.
No meaningful precipitation is expected Tuesday, making it one of the quieter weather days of the week. Residents should still take normal late-summer precautions when spending extended time outdoors, including staying hydrated and using sun protection.
Tuesday night will remain quiet. Leonardtown and Prince Frederick are forecast to be mostly clear with lows near 64 degrees, while Waldorf should become partly cloudy with a low around 63. Winds are expected to become calm overnight.
The dry stretch should continue into Wednesday, when temperatures are forecast to rise slightly. Leonardtown could reach 86, Prince Frederick 87 and Waldorf 88 under mostly sunny skies.
A more unsettled pattern is expected later in the week. The National Weather Service currently shows increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms beginning Wednesday night and becoming more significant Thursday. In Leonardtown and Prince Frederick, rain chances increase substantially Thursday, while Waldorf is also expected to see showers and storms develop.
For Tuesday, however, the overall message is simple: sunny, dry and comfortable across Southern Maryland.
