The Chesapeake Baysox beat the Harrisburg Senators 2-0 in a rain-shortened game Thursday night, with top Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson striking out eight over 3 2/3 innings and Ethan Anderson supplying the only offense with his first home run since returning from the injured list.
The lone runs of the game came on Anderson’s two-run homer in the top of the fifth off Senators right-hander Luke Young (3-1) — his 18th of the season and his first with Chesapeake since being reinstated from the injured list on Tuesday, meaning it came in just his second game back. Chesapeake (29-24, 58-63) struck out 11 batters as a staff for the club’s sixth shutout of the season.
Eyanson, working his fourth start since joining the Baysox, opened by loading the bases on two singles and a walk in a 33-pitch first inning — then struck out the side anyway, including a swinging strikeout on a full count with the bases loaded and two outs. He struck out four of his next six batters before a single and walk in the fourth prompted his exit. In all, Eyanson threw 85 pitches, 52 for strikes, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out eight. He’s now struck out eight or more in all four of his Baysox starts, and his 32 strikeouts since his Aug. 8 Chesapeake debut lead all of full-season Minor League Baseball.
Eyanson’s dominance carries extra weight given his pedigree: he was one of the centerpiece prospects Baltimore acquired from Boston at the trade deadline in the blockbuster deal that sent three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox. He enters the Orioles’ system as Baltimore’s top-ranked prospect and the No. 34 overall prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America (No. 49 on MLB Pipeline). A third-round pick by Boston in 2025 out of LSU, Eyanson was a Baseball America First-Team All-American and helped lead the Tigers to the 2025 national championship. Across three levels in his first professional season, he carries a sub-1.50 ERA with well over 100 strikeouts, and his fastball has touched 100 mph this year.
Right-hander Brock Moore (1-1) picked up the win, recording the final out of the fourth before striking out the side in a perfect fifth. Christian Herberholz (1 save) allowed a hit in his lone inning of work but still faced the minimum thanks to a ground-ball double play.
Rain began falling in the sixth inning and intensified to start the seventh. Colin Tuft saw three pitches to lead off the frame before a 39-minute delay set in; with storms persisting in the area, the game was eventually called official.
Chesapeake continues the series in Harrisburg on Friday night, with right-hander JT Quinn (1-0, 3.00 ERA) on the mound; first pitch is 7 p.m. at FNB Field. The Baysox return home for their final 2026 homestand on Sept. 1, opening a six-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at 6:35 p.m.
