Sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Brown was named United East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday — the first career conference weekly honor for the Broadneck High School product.
Brown backstopped St. Mary’s College of Maryland to a 1-1-1 start over the opening week of the 2026 season, posting a 0.67 goals against average with 14 saves, her first career shutout, and her second career win. She made one save in a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Hood College on Sept. 1 to open the season, then made five saves in a tough 1-0 loss at Franklin & Marshall College on Sept. 4 — a game the Diplomats controlled early, out-shooting St. Mary’s 9-1 in the first half before Meg Balerna’s 41st-minute header off a corner from Amanda Nemeth proved decisive. Brown rebounded three days later with a season-best eight stops in a scoreless draw against McDaniel College on Sept. 5.
Brown currently ranks third in the United East in goals against average (0.67), save percentage (.875), and total saves (14).
St. Mary’s (1-1-1) returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, hosting Stevenson University (0-2-0) at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium at 7 p.m.
