Junior forward Nick Haney was named United East Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while senior captain and goalkeeper Zack Reed earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. It’s Haney’s third career weekly award and the first United East honor of Reed’s career.

The recognition follows a 2-1 week that opened St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s 2026 season. Haney paced the team with four shots in a 3-1 loss at Hood College on Sept. 1, then assisted on the Seahawks’ first goal of a 5-3 win over Albertus Magnus College on Sept. 4, finishing that game with an assist and two shots. He capped the week with a career-best two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Sept. 5, good for a game-best five points on six shots. For the week, Haney totaled two goals and two assists, and he currently leads the United East with 12 shots, six shots on goal, six points, and two goals, while sitting second with two assists.
Reed, a 6-4 keeper, opened the week with six saves in the loss at Hood before turning in a career-best seven saves in the win over Eastern Mennonite, finishing the week with 13 saves and a .722 save percentage — good for a tie for third and sixth, respectively, in the conference.
St. Mary’s (2-1) hosts The Catholic University of America (2-0-0) Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 4:30 p.m. at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
