Hospice of the Chesapeake returns as the official charity partner for the St. Charles Running Festival for the second straight year, with this year’s race set for Saturday, Sept. 12, at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.
Last year’s inaugural partnership raised $2,160 through participant contributions, which combined with community sponsorships to generate a little over $13,000 for Hospice of the Chesapeake’s work supporting Charles County patients and families navigating serious illness and grief. The organization says it currently serves nearly 85 patients and families in the county at any given time, regardless of insurance coverage or care complexity.
This year’s event, presented by Lennar and organized by Corrigan Sports Enterprises, features a certified 10K and 5K through the St. Charles community, starting and finishing at Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Race weekend runs from packet pickup Thursday at Corrigan Sports’ headquarters through Friday evening check-in at the stadium, with the race itself Saturday morning followed by the Taste of Southern Maryland food truck festival, open to runners and the general public alike, plus a Kids Fun Zone. Participants who’ve experienced loss can also register for a memorial walk or run in honor of a loved one, with a personalized tribute shirt.
“We are so grateful to once again be included as the official charity partner for the St. Charles Running Festival,” said Christine Wilson, executive director of the Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation. “Last year’s event showed us just how much this community cares about supporting one another, and we’re thrilled to see that tradition continue. We want to thank Corrigan Sports Enterprises and its president, Lee Corrigan, for their continued partnership, as well as our community sponsors.”
The race is backed by Hospice of the Chesapeake’s Premier Sponsor, the Brian and Patricia Giese Foundation, along with University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center as Community Partner and Finish Line Sponsor. It’s one of four fall fundraising events the Giese Foundation is supporting this year across Hospice of the Chesapeake’s service area, alongside a golf outing, a luau, and a separate community food event.
Registration for the run and tickets for the Taste of Southern Maryland remain open at hospicechesapeake.org/blue-crab-run.
