The St. Mary’s County Board of Elections has released its canvassing schedule for mail-in and provisional ballots ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The pre-Election Day mail-in ballot canvass begins Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m., with a tentative second session set for Thursday, Oct. 15, if the volume of mail-in ballots requires it; that date is subject to change, and updates will be posted at stmaryscountymd.gov/elections. Results from that canvass won’t be released until Election night. On Election Day itself, the county will canvass early voting and pre-Election Day mail-in ballots starting at 2 p.m., though those results also won’t be released until polls close. A post-Election Day mail-in ballot canvass follows on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m., with the provisional ballot canvass on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m., and the final canvass on Friday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. All canvassing takes place at the Board of Elections office, 23250 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
Oct. 13 is also the deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for the general election, either in person at the elections office by 5 p.m. or online by 11:59 p.m., according to the board’s own website.
At the top of the ballot, incumbent Democratic Gov. Wes Moore is seeking a second term against Republican Dan Cox, a rematch of their 2022 race.
