A Lexington Park man faces 15 charges after St. Mary’s County detectives say a search of his home turned up more than 300 grams of suspected cocaine, drug manufacturing equipment, and three loaded handguns, one of them reported stolen.
Michael Fitzgerald Dobbins, 39, of Lexington Park, was taken into custody Thursday morning at the First Colony Way Shopping Center in California, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division then served search and seizure warrants at his residence in the 21000 block of Great Mills Road, where they say they recovered the cocaine, drug paraphernalia, suspected drug-manufacturing equipment, and three loaded handguns: an unserialized Polymer80 9mm pistol, a Glock 19 Gen4 9mm, and a Glock chambered in .357 SIG. A law enforcement database check showed the .357 SIG Glock had been reported stolen in March.
Dobbins was charged with 15 counts, including possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, three counts of possessing a regulated firearm after a disqualifying conviction, three counts of possessing a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, unlawful possession of a firearm without a required serial number, possession of a regulated firearm believed to be stolen, and possession of a digital scale indicating drug manufacturing. He has not been convicted, and the charges represent allegations only.
The firearm charges alone carry significant mandatory exposure under Maryland law. Possessing a regulated firearm after a disqualifying conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years without parole per count under the state’s Public Safety Article — meaning the three separate counts Dobbins faces on that charge alone could carry a combined mandatory floor well beyond that single-count minimum, depending on how a court structures sentencing. The unserialized-firearm charge adds separate felony exposure under Maryland’s 2022 ghost-gun law, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, a Schedule II narcotic, is a felony carrying up to 20 years in prison for a first offense.
