CalvertHealth Medical Center has earned a fresh round of national and state recognitions spanning stroke care, bariatric surgery and several hospital-wide quality measures, the Prince Frederick hospital announced this week.
The hospital received the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Achievement Award for stroke care for the 15th consecutive year, along with the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite designation, which recognizes hospitals that administer clot-busting medication to at least 85% of eligible stroke patients within 60 minutes. CalvertHealth was also re-certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), a designation confirming the hospital meets state standards for stroke evaluation and treatment.
Separately, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association named CalvertHealth a Blue Distinction® Center for Bariatric Surgery, a designation reserved for facilities demonstrating quality, safety and cost-effectiveness in bariatric care and requiring accreditation through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. U.S. News & World Report also named CalvertHealth a High Performing Hospital in four categories: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, heart failure and hip fracture — rankings based on patient outcomes, risk-adjusted mortality, complications and discharge success.

The latest honors add to a run of recognition CalvertHealth has built in recent years, including an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2026 and a 5-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in both 2025 and 2026 — accolades that helped CEO Jeremy Bradford earn recognition as a rural hospital leader earlier this year and followed CalvertHealth’s placement on Forbes’ inaugural Top Hospitals list last December.
