ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey swept the United East Conference’s weekly honors Monday, with sophomore Julie Presgraves named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Sophia Kent named Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced September 21.
It’s the first career conference weekly award for Presgraves, a midfielder from Frederick. For Kent, a goalkeeper from Chesterville who also plays lacrosse for the Seahawks, it’s her sixth career honor.
Both earned the recognition after St. Mary’s 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon on September 17 — the team’s only game of the week, and one that snapped a three-game losing streak. Presgraves delivered the game-winner at 53:26, redirecting a pass from senior forward Emma Mastrangelo to convert her second goal of the season. It was also the second game-winning goal of her career. The sophomore is now tied for seventh in the United East with two goals and tied for ninth with four points on the season.
Kent turned in a season-best six saves in the win, improving to 2-1 on the year, as Randolph-Macon outshot St. Mary’s 26-12 overall. The junior goalkeeper leads the United East with a 0.91 goals-against average and ranks third in the conference with a .786 save percentage.
St. Mary’s (2-3) returns to action Wednesday, September 23, traveling to Chestertown for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup against Washington College (2-4).
Presgraves and Kent join a growing list of Seahawks recognized by the conference this fall. Kent’s teammate, senior goalkeeper Caroline McDonald, earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor the week before, on September 14 — meaning a St. Mary’s goalkeeper has now claimed the conference’s defensive award in back-to-back weeks.
