The Hughesville Post Office has closed until further notice because of structural damage, the U.S. Postal Service announced. Customers are being sent to the La Plata Post Office to pick up their mail.
The office at 15485 Prince Frederick Road (Route 231) is temporarily closed, USPS said in a Sept. 23 notice. The Postal Service has not said what caused the damage, and a timeframe for reopening in Hughesville has not been set.
What changes for customers
Mail delivery in the Hughesville area continues as normal.
Customers who need to pick up mail in person will now go to the La Plata Post Office at 100 Centennial St. in La Plata. That includes post office box mail, vacation holds, signature-required items and oversized packages.
The La Plata office’s retail hours are:
- Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon
Customers must show photo ID to pick up mail in La Plata.
Stamps, shipping and other retail services are also available at other area post offices.
