A Clinton man the Maryland Lottery calls a jack of all trades won $50,000 playing Pick 5 during what he called his lucky birthday month, and hit for another $5,000 the same day, according to the Maryland Lottery.

Charles Watkins won the top prize on a $1 straight ticket on Sept. 27. His box ticket on the same draw won $5,000, which he didn’t notice for a few days.

“I didn’t even know I hit until a few days later, I checked my box ticket first and it was a $5,000 win,” he told the Lottery.

Watkins, whose birthday is the 13th, said he had been playing a little more than usual in September. He bought the winning ticket at the Royal Farms at 5200 Auth Road in Camp Springs, which earns a $500 bonus for selling a top-prize winner.

Watkins works as a graphic designer, personal trainer, martial arts teacher, mechanic and dancer, and he collects, restores and sells antique cars. He claimed his prize Oct. 9 at Lottery headquarters, where he said he was “a bit in shock” and called the win “a great feeling.”

He plans to invest the money in his businesses. “It takes money to make money,” he said.
