BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Two Charles County volunteer fire companies and Calvert County government are among 22 Maryland recipients of donations Tractor Supply Co. plans to hand out Saturday, Nov. 7, for what the retailer calls National Hometown Heroes Day.

The Tennessee-based farm and ranch retailer said each participating Maryland store will give $250 to a local military, veteran or first responder organization chosen by the store, for a total of $5,500 statewide. The Southern Maryland recipients on the company’s list are:

  • Newburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue
  • Hughesville Fire and EMS Co. 2
  • Calvert County Commissioners

The company’s media advisory did not say which store chose each recipient, or how the Calvert County donation will be used. No St. Mary’s County organization appears on the list.

Both Charles County recipients are volunteer companies that rely in part on donations and fundraising alongside county funding. The county’s fire and rescue board is also weighing looser rules for how companies buy new trucks.

What happens at the stores

Events begin at 10 a.m. local time at all Tractor Supply stores in Maryland, according to the advisory. Stores in the region include Huntingtown in Calvert County, White Plains in Charles County, and Charlotte Hall and Hollywood in St. Mary’s County.

Planned activities include touch-a-truck displays with local fire, police and emergency vehicles, and stations where visitors can write thank-you letters to active-duty service members, veterans and first responders.

Military members, veterans and first responders who register and are verified through the company’s Neighbors Club rewards program can also get a 10% discount. Sign-up is available at tractorsupply.com/hometownheroes.

The company says the event spans all of its more than 2,400 stores nationwide and is timed ahead of Veterans Day, which falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Other Maryland recipients on the list include the Mount Airy Fire Department, Elkton and Aberdeen police departments, the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company and Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue.
