MECHANICSVILLE — A new boutique Pilates studio opened its doors on Three Notch Road this week, starting with a few days reserved for the members who signed up first.
10x Pilates, founded by certified instructor Jennifer O’Neill, is holding classes for founding members Oct. 26-31. Classes open to all members Monday, Nov. 2, according to the studio’s announcement. The studio is at 29015 Three Notch Road, Unit 2B.
The studio bills itself as Maryland’s first Sculptformer studio. The Sculptformer is an athletic version of the Pilates reformer that uses adjustable resistance to work the whole body. The Chronicle could not independently confirm the first-in-Maryland claim.

The studio’s first 50 founding memberships sold out in four days, all to people on its online interest list, the studio said.
Slow by design
Classes follow what the studio calls its 10x Fit Method, which stresses slow, deliberate movement and time under tension rather than speed. The workouts are described as high intensity but low impact, with a focus on strength, endurance and core stability. Instructors offer modifications and progressions so beginners and experienced athletes can take the same class.
“You don’t have to move fast to challenge yourself,” O’Neill said in the announcement. “Sometimes the slowest part of an exercise is the hardest.”
O’Neill said she has hired instructors with a range of fitness backgrounds to help members learn the movements and find the right level of challenge, whether they are new to Pilates or adding it to an existing routine.
The announcement did not list membership or class prices. Information on memberships, schedules and booking is posted at 10xpilates.com. The studio can be reached at 301-675-8800.
