LA PLATA — A Charles County jury has convicted an Indian Head man of sexually abusing a girl he lived with over a period of about two years, the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office announced.
Kareem Abdul Isaroon, 51, was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor on Thursday, Oct. 22, after a four-day trial in Charles County Circuit Court, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office. The case is State v. Kareem Abdul Isaroon, C-08-CR-25-000606. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 16 and faces up to 25 years in prison.
How the case came to light
The abuse surfaced during an unrelated investigation. On Sept. 5, 2025, detectives and Child Protective Services workers were looking into a separate report of suspected child abuse or neglect when the girl told them what had happened, prosecutors said.
Three days later, on Sept. 8, 2025, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office detective observed a forensic interview with the girl at the Center for Children. During that interview she said Isaroon had sexually abused her on multiple occasions, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Investigators determined that Isaroon lived in the same home as the girl from 2023 through 2025, prosecutors said. During that time, he repeatedly touched her inappropriately when she came into his room, according to the office.
The Center for Children, based in La Plata, is the child advocacy center for Southern Maryland. Forensic interviews there are conducted by trained interviewers so that a child can describe abuse once, in a child-friendly setting, while law enforcement and child protective workers observe, rather than retelling it repeatedly to different agencies.
The charge and the penalty
Under Maryland Criminal Law Section 3-602, sexual abuse of a minor applies to a parent, household or family member, or other person with permanent or temporary care, custody or responsibility for supervising a minor. It is a felony with a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. The State’s Attorney’s Office did not say which of those relationships applied in this case.
The release did not say whether Isaroon was charged with other offenses that the jury rejected, whether he has been held since his arrest, or who represented him at trial.
The verdict is one of several child sexual abuse convictions in Charles County courts in the past year. In January, a former police officer was convicted in a child sex abuse case, and in October 2025 a jury convicted a Nanjemoy man in a child pornography trial.
The Chronicle does not identify victims of sexual abuse and has withheld details that could identify the girl.
Anyone who suspects a child is being abused or neglected can report it to Charles County Child Protective Services or call 911 in an emergency. Maryland’s statewide child abuse and neglect hotline is 1-800-332-6347.
