PRINCE FREDERICK — Calvert County Public Schools Superintendent Marcus Newsome will lay out the school system’s priorities and vision at the 2026 State of the School System on Tuesday, Nov. 17, his first such address since the school board made him the permanent superintendent this year.
The event runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, according to an invitation from the school system’s Office of Communications. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
The school system said the evening will highlight student and staff accomplishments, outline priorities and plans for the future, and recognize community partners that support students. Guests are asked to RSVP online by Nov. 6. The invitation did not say whether seating is limited or whether the presentation will be streamed.
A first full year at the helm
Newsome, a veteran superintendent, took over Calvert’s schools on an interim basis in 2025, when the board named him interim chief. On Feb. 12, the Calvert County Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint him superintendent for a four-year term that began July 1 and runs through June 30, 2030.
The address comes weeks after the state’s latest school ratings. On the 2026 Maryland School Report Card, five Calvert schools earned five stars, the top rating.
