ST. MARY’S CITY — A Waldorf swimmer carried St. Mary’s College of Maryland through a tough weekend and came away with the league’s top weekly honor.
Junior Mandy Cartwright, a Thomas Stone High School graduate, was named the Atlantic East Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 2, the first such award of her career, according to St. Mary’s College Athletics. She is only the second swimmer in the conference to win the award this season.
The honor came in a losing weekend for the Seahawks. St. Mary’s College fell 211-51 to Randolph-Macon College on Oct. 30 and 162-99 to Stevenson University the next day. Cartwright was a constant through both, collecting one gold, two silver and three bronze medals across the two non-conference meets.

Her results
| Meet | Event | Place | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Randolph-Macon | 200 freestyle | 2nd | 2:05.62 |

The spread of those events tells the story. Cartwright swam everything from a 100-yard sprint to the 1,000-yard distance race, plus three relays, across two days.
St. Mary’s College opened its season by sweeping a double-dual meet in October before the two losses. The program also sent a swimmer to the 2026 NCAA Championships last March, according to the college.
