WHITE PLAINS — Fire trucks, police cruisers and thank-you notes will fill parking lots at Tractor Supply stores across Maryland on Saturday, as the farm and ranch retailer marks its National Hometown Heroes Day four days before Veterans Day.

Events start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and each participating store will present a $250 donation to a local military, veteran or first responder organization, according to the company’s public relations firm. Activities vary by location, so families should check with their nearest store before heading out.

Southern Maryland has four nearby stores, in Huntingtown, Charlotte Hall, White Plains and Edgewater, putting the event within a short drive for most residents of Calvert, St. Mary’s, Charles and southern Anne Arundel counties.

What families can expect

Planned activities at participating Maryland stores include:

  • Touch-a-truck displays with local fire, police and emergency vehicles
  • “Thank-a-Hero” stations where children and adults can write notes to active-duty service members, veterans and emergency responders, along with kids’ crafts
  • Savings for heroes enrolled in the company’s loyalty program

Under the company’s Hometown Heroes program, verified military members, veterans and first responders in its free Neighbor’s Club get 10% off select items on a handful of “Honoring Heroes Days,” including Nov. 7 and Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Where the money goes

The $250 gifts go to organizations each store selects in its own area. Nationally, Tractor Supply said it supported more than 2,000 fire, police and veteran organizations during last year’s celebration. The Tractor Supply Foundation has given more than $3 million through the Hometown Heroes effort since the company launched it in 2024, with recipients including Folds of Honor, K9s For Warriors, the Farmer Veteran Coalition and Operation Homefront.

A week of Veterans Day events

Saturday’s events kick off a busy stretch for local veterans. On Veterans Day itself, Leonardtown holds its 51st Veterans Day parade and wreath laying, and St. Mary’s County museums will toll bells for the World War I dead. Saturday is also one of the state’s youth, veterans and military waterfowl hunt days.
