The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation is hosting a series of open house events to introduce its upcoming Youth Mentoring Program. These informational sessions are aimed at parents, potential mentees, and mentors who want to learn more about the program, meet the staff and speakers, and explore the benefits of participating. The open house events are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday, May 22, 2024: 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Hope Community Center, 104 Pushaw Station Road, Sunderland
  • Thursday, May 23, 2024: 6-8 p.m. at Southern Community Center, 20 Appeal Lane, Lusby

Funded by a grant from the National Recreation and Park Association, the Youth Mentoring Program aims to provide meaningful guidance and support to young people throughout Calvert County. The program will commence in October 2024 and run for ten weeks, with a second session beginning in late February 2025. Sessions will be held weekly from 6-7:30 p.m. across all three county districts.

The program is designed to help young individuals build character, acquire valuable life skills, and achieve personal goals. Through group settings, engaging projects, and guest speakers, mentees will gain insights and experiences to assist them in navigating the challenges of growing up.

Participants will engage in projects and activities focused on character building, life skills, self-care, and other relevant topics. Additionally, the program will host a family event each month to foster community and family involvement.
