The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has identified and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at a car meet early Sunday morning. The suspect, 22-year-old Raheem Adams of Stafford, Virginia, faces multiple charges, including the murder of 26-year-old John Phipps of Waldorf.

Community tips played a crucial role in advancing the investigation. According to the police, information provided by residents and Prince George’s County Crime Solvers was instrumental in identifying Adams as the suspect.

The incident occurred on May 19, 2024, at approximately 1:45 am. Officers responded to a shooting in a shopping center parking lot located in the 6400 block of Marlboro Pike. Upon arrival, they discovered Phipps inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Phipps was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. A second man was also shot during the incident, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Following the identification of Adams, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Fugitive Unit collaborated with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office to apprehend him. Adams was taken into custody at his home in Stafford, Virginia, early this morning.

Adams faces charges of first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree attempted murder, and other related charges. He is currently held in Virginia, awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
