WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the first day of the 438thsession of the Maryland General Assembly:

“I join in welcoming the start of a new session of the Maryland General Assembly. During this year’s session, I hope that the Legislature will tackle important issues facing our state, including the ongoing opioid epidemic, ensuring all Marylanders have access to affordable health care, addressing paid family leave, providing a dedicated source of funding for the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority, and addressing changes to the tax code as a result of the new partisan tax law that will harm Maryland families.

“I urge my colleagues in the Assembly to work together for the good of all Marylanders, and I look forward to working with the members of the General Assembly in the year to come.”
