Seventh- and eighth-grade aces set up earlier this year for middle school volleyball tournaments.

Seventh-grade girls played at Henry E. Lackey High School Jan. 30, with seventh-grade boys having a tournament on the same day at La Plata High School. On Feb. 1, eighth-grade girls took to the court at Lackey with eighth-grade boys playing at La Plata.

Students try out for a spot on the teams and must be eligible to play based on their first quarter grades and attendance, said Mike Davis, Instructional Resource Teacher at General Smallwood Middle School and coordinator of middle school athletics. Middle school basketball tournaments are set for March.
