February is Career and Technology Month! We are taking this opportunity to highlight a few of our CTA programs throughout the month. First up is Construction Design and Management, a four-course project-based learning pathway in which students gain an understanding of the built world through the design and construction process. The program is taught by Marshall Pike.
The four courses in the program are Introduction to Construction Design and Management, Principles of Construction Design, Advanced Design and 3D Modeling, and Advanced Construction Management.
Projects this year include the STEM4UAS Challenge, during which students will complete ground school, build an unmanned aerial vehicle, prepare a flight readiness review and mission package, and compete in a challenge. Next year, the class will collaborate with CHESPAX to map submerged aquatic vegetation and study invasive phragmites in the Patuxent River using unmanned aerial vehicles.
Upon completion of the program, students have the opportunity to earn up to 6 credits from Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Architecture or Construction Management. They are also eligible to apply for industry certifications, including AutoDesk, AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot licensure.
Possible careers include architect, drafts person, project manager, and construction foreman.
