It’s time to get those dancing shoes out for an evening of fun and entertainment! An exciting line-up of events is scheduled for May 4th including the return of the Chesapeake Swingband for their annual concert in Downtown Leonardtown. Be ready to jitterbug, waltz, and boogie-woogie the night away from 6-8 PM! All levels welcome, just join in!

New for this year will be a much anticipated Dance Flash Mob organized by local performer extraordinaire and event organizer Taryn Brown. Find Taryn & Friends on The Square starting around 6:30 PM – as the band takes a break the audience can keep moving to the music, click here for additional details. If you are interested in dancing within a circumstantial role, email: and a rehearsal schedule will be sent to you, or just show up and join in!

Throughout town art studios, shops, and restaurants will be open from 5-8 PM with several galleries hosting Opening Receptions for their new shows and featured artists. A brand new “Art Share” series for First Fridays will debut with  local poet (and Professor Emeritus of St. Mary’s College of Maryland) Michael Glaser who will be presenting from 5:30-6:30 PM at St. Mary’s County Arts Council, visit here for more info. Also planned are pet adoption opportunities at Home Elements in partnership with Second Hope Rescue as well as festivities beyond Downtown Leonardtown (check out the weekend music schedule at Port of Leonardtown Winery!)

Stay around for the audience participation Drum Circle featuring the SoMar Drummers from 8-9 PM at the grassy field right next to the Arts Council building and across from Winegardner Motor Company. Limited seating will be available but feel free to bring a lawn chair, instruments provided or bring your own, all ages and skill levels are welcome.

A big thank you to our Platinum Level Sponsors (Marrick Homes, Quality Built Homes, and the Winegardner Motor Company) whose support makes these community events possible. Check the Leonardtown First Fridays Facebook page for details and info about one-night only specials offered by participating merchants. As always, First Fridays in Leonardtown are family- and pet- friendly events and the Music Series on The Square is free to attend, individual shops and restaurants may have specific pet policies.

We look forward to seeing you on May 4th!
