From Principal Zach Seawell: Calvert Middle School is pleased to recognize Ms. Katie Hance as our Educational Support Person of the Year for 2018. Ms. Hance is a special education instructional assistant at Calvert Middle School in the Integrated Structured Learning Environment (ISLE) program. She has been with Calvert County Public Schools since 2005, working at St. Leonard Elementary, Southern Middle, and Calvert Middle.
Ms. Hance is the first face that many students see when they arrive at school each morning because she helps with the morning bus arrival routine. After getting everyone safely into the building, she escorts some of her students to their classroom and begins her day.
In the classroom, Ms. Hance takes a leadership role. She assists the teacher with planning and preparing the daily lessons based on her experience within the ISLE program. Ms. Hance is currently taking classes and pursuing her teaching degree. She will make a wonderful teacher, and hopefully she will consider applying to teach at Calvert Middle School!
