Board Does Not Formally Endorse Candidates Running for Elected Office

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – June 21, 2018 – As the election season progresses, candidates may claim the support of various groups, organizations or other elected officials. However, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) does not formally endorse candidates running for elected office.

Any claim to the contrary is false. While individual commissioners may endorse candidates, an official BOCC endorsement would require discussion and adoption in an open-session meeting.

The current BOCC has taken no such action.

Editors note: While the press release does not state any candidate in particular, it has been noted that the below referenced image is referring to candidate Jack Bailey’s flyer and the wording of ” endorsed by St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties commissioners”.

Bailey has received the endorsement of one Calvert Commissioner and three two St. Mary’s Commissioners.( edited 6/22/2018 to reflect a mistake. Bailey has been endorsed by three total commissioners, not three from St. Marys)

This image is taken from Evan Slaughenhoupt’s Facebook Page and states,”We as a Board do NOT endorse anybody. Press release coming soon.” Commissioner Slaughenhoupt currently serves as the Board President of the Calvert County Commissioners.
