In partnership with the NAVAIR Office of Small Business Programs, a networking event for local businesses, support organizations, elected officials, and NAVAIR to discuss small business relevance to the industrial base and participation in the Technology Corridor. Mr. James “Hondo” Geurts, assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition, will be guest speaker. Vice Adm. Dean Peters, NAVAIR commander, will provide opening remarks and NAVAIR vision. Mr. Shelby Butler, associate director for NAVAIR Office of Small Business Programs, will moderate a panel of NAVAIR leadership.

This will be followed by a one-on-one conversation with retired Vice Adm. Joe Dyer and Dr. Dan Crippen, with questions from the audience.

The St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD) and the St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development (DED) are jointly working to assess the effects of the opioid epidemic on the business community in St Mary’s County. Understanding the impact of the substance abuse epidemic on the local workforce and employers will help the county better respond. Project Opportunity – Entrepreneur Training for Vets

Orientation Session: August 27
Charles County Government Building, LaPlata

Project Opportunity is a free entrepreneur training program for veterans who want to start or to continue to grow their business. This 10-week program is facilitated by business professionals and subject matter experts and will cover topics such as assessing your business ideas, marketing analysis, financing and financial management, business structure and taxes, and development of a business plan. The program is set to start September 10 and will have weekly classes.
