The Southern Maryland Concert Band is a volunteer, non-profit ensemble of adult and student instrumentalists dedicated to performing quality concert band music in the tradition of community bands from years ago.      

Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for sitting. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol, please. Concessions are available from the Town’s food trailer located in the back of the parking lot; an ice cream truck is stationed there for your enjoyment. A play area for children, the Kids’ Zone, allows parents to enjoy the concert while keeping an eye on the little ones.

Please note military concerts are usually about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes  due to their regulations.

Town of La Plata Comprehensive Plan Update 

 The Town is in the process of collecting input from the community to guide them in updating of the Comprehensive plan. The Town will be holding several listening sessions throughout August and September to discuss topics that were highlighted during the Comprehensive Plan Update kick-off meeting. The next listening session will be on August 29, 2018, to discuss La Plata’s Transportation Element. The session will be located at the La Plata Town Hall from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.The meeting schedule is subject to change, so please check the Town’s website for any updates at: bit.ly/ToLPCompUpdate

    

Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee 

  The Town is looking for residents, business owners, Homeowner’s Association representatives, developers and other interested individuals throughout the Town to become a part of our Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. The committee will meet twice a month and a tentative schedule will be posted to the Town’s website. Anyone that is interested should submit their contact information and a short bio to the Planning Department for consideration by the Planning Commission. Please send your information to Jeanine Harrington, Senior Planner by email at jharrington@townoflaplata.org. The deadline to submit for the Steering Committee will be September 6, 2018.
    

The La Plata Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The market is located behind the Charles County Courthouse in the parking lot on the north side of Talbot St. on Wednesdays and in the parking lot on the south side of Talbot St. on Saturdays.
