The Board of Education presented two resolutions to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students and Education Association of Charles County (EACC) representatives at its Oct. 9 meeting. The following resolutions are presented annually:
- American Freedom Week; and
- American Education Week.
CCPS celebrates American Freedom Week Nov. 11-17. During American Freedom Week, schools give special recognition to those who serve the country and those who gave their lives to preserve America’s freedom. Special activities take place in schools to honor and celebrate patriotism. Accepting the resolution at the Board meeting were students enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) program. They are Army Cadet Lt. Col. Xavier Winford, senior, Maurice J. McDonough High School; and Air Force Cadet Maj. Sydni Bolton, senior, North Point High School. Board of Education Member Victoria Kelly presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
The school system celebrates American Education Week Nov. 12-16. American Education Week provides opportunities to celebrate public education and honor those who make a difference to ensure that every child receives a quality education. Linda McLaughlin, EACC president, accepted the resolution at the meeting. Board Member Michael Lukas presented the resolution on behalf of the Board.
