By: David Higgins II,

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our readers! We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

I debated on writing this, because frankly the news is not about me or this paper. But it is about you and our community. And this paper does not exist without you. So it makes sense to write it.

December 17, 2018 I launched this site. Closing in on one year of publication and, while I still see room for improvement; I am extremely proud and excited for how it has grown. I began this paper not as a means for work ( I’ve been in the website, social media, SEO, etc business for over 10 years) but as a new kind of media for the community.

I (and many others) wanted a news source that didn’t embellish; that covered all aspects of the community. That was unbiased. I strive not to focus on the bad things happening. There is so much more to Southern Maryland than who got arrested for Suboxone®, the nine fender benders( although I am working on a really cool traffic page), or generally making police briefs more than they need to be… briefs.

I look forward to what the coming year will bring, and how I can grow this paper Currently, I work by myself doing this; but have a few people lined up to come on. We appreciate tips, photos(not just accidents, but all things Southern Maryland),and article contributions. I have several new plans coming into fruition, including traffic, more in-depth and interactive weather reporting, several weekly “articles”, guest writers, more original articles, along with doing away with Press Releases completely (meaning we’ll write them using it as a reference).

We will have advertising on the site, and have experimented with some basic advertising over the past few months. However, as we bring on local advertisers, rest assured I am not going to allow the site to be overrun with dozens of ads on every page. Advertising will be kept under control, and will not only allow a more pleasant user experience, but you’ll be able to see the ads better. This is also great for advertisers, as their ads will get more visibility.

I tell you all of this because it couldn’t have happened, and continue to happen without your readership and support. I want you to know what I have coming up. And yeah, competitors will see this and maybe they will dismiss it or try to do it better. I do not see anything wrong with that and welcome it. Whats wrong with pushing others to do something better? The community is the one who wins with better news.

And with all of that said, I sincerely want to thank all of you that have supported me personally in this endeavor, that have supported the paper personally, and wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving, and a happy holiday season. Continue to show love and respect in our community, and be safe     (I’d really prefer not to be cover your crimes, accidents, etc… I want you to be safe and happy).

We also would really appreciate it if you shared our page/paper with your friends and family. With the tens of thousands of views daily, if at least fifty percent of you invited everyone on your friends list to “Like” the Facebook page; we would have an enormous jump in readership.(With more Facebook fans we get a better reach!)We would really like to hit the 5,000 fan mark before the end of 2018! So I kindly ask you to please invite as many people as you think would benefit from this paper. Thank you so much!

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!
