Charles County Economic Development Department Hosts International Trade Seminar:Exports to Africa Energize Small Businesses
Waldorf, Md. – The Charles County Economic Development Department (EDD) will encourage businesses to grow globally at its International Trade Seminar on Thursday, March 14. The event, will be held at the Waldorf’s Hilton Garden Inn (10385 O’Donnell Place) from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will explore export opportunities available in Africa — one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
American exports to Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for $14.1 billion in 2017 — up 4.6% from the previous year, according to the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Trade mutually benefits U.S. companies and the African economy, and U.S. companies are tapping into this dynamic market. Speakers and sessions will connect attendees with industry experts, companies exporting products to Africa, representatives from government trade agencies, African embassies and other businesses considering the market.
“The International Trade Seminar is a chance for small businesses to learn best practices to expand their market to gain competitive advantage over their competitors,” said EDD Director Darréll Brown. “Exporting isn’t just for global giants; the marketplace embraces companies large and small.”
“According to the Small Business Administration, 96% of the world’s trade is outside of the United States,” said EDD Chief of Business Development Lucretia Freeman-Buster. “Exporting offers an opportunity for businesses to capture new markets and reach more consumers –consequently increasing sales. The seminar will provide information to position our local businesses to gain a strategic footing in Africa’s vibrant marketplace.”
Our speakers are experts in the field of international trade. The seminar offers an amazing opportunity for both new and established companies looking to do business in Africa, to come, learn what the opportunities are for their businesses, and become a competitive force beyond U.S. markets.
