Prince Frederick, MD- John Douglas Parran, 66( went by Doug), died Friday, March 22, 2019 after along battle with illness.

Doug was elected to his first Calvert County Commissioner position in 1998 after two unsuccessful attempts in 1990 and 1994. Parran ran again in 2002 but lost to Jerry Clark. Parran ran a final time as an Independent in 2006, but lost. Doug held many positions including Calvert County Board of Commissioners, 1998-2002; past member, Calvert Marine Museum board, Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Citizens Advisory Committee, Economic Development Authority; member, Elks Lodge 2620, AARP, St. Leonard Vision Group.

Parran was a strong supporter of land preservation and reducing build out. In the 2006 Washington Past Local Elections sections, Parran was quoted as saying, “Coping with the residential growth that affects everything from the traffic congestion to overcrowding in the schools, to increased cost of providing government services, public safety, teachers, etc. I have a record of supporting land preservation and reduced build-out. I also want to see more housing options available to more Calvert County citizens.”

Services for Former Commissioner Parran will be held Friday, March 29, 2019 at Christ Episcopal Church on Broomes Island Road Port Republic at 11 a.m.
