News Release, Public Information Offices of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties

Calvert County:

 The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announces county offices will be closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. In addition:

  • County senior centers will be closed on July 4 and 5. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered. However, participants will be provided with shelf-stable meals in advance.
  • County public transportation will not operate on July 4 or 5. Normal operating hours resume Saturday, July 6.
  • Calvert Library locations will be closed on July 4. Online services and electronic checkouts are available.
  • Northeast Community Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 and remain closed on July 4 and 5. North Beach Recreation Center will be closed all day July 3, 4 and 5. Mt. Hope, Southern, and Harriet E. Brown community centers will be closed July 4 and 5.
  • All recreation parks including Dunkirk, Hallowing Point, and Cove Point parks will be open normal hours.
  • The Appeal Landfill and county convenience centers will be closed on July 4 and 5. The Appeal Landfill and convenience centers will reopen with normal hours on Saturday, July 6.
  • The Solomons Visitor Information Center will be closed on July 4. Normal operating hours resume Friday, July 5.
  • Chesapeake Hills Golf Course will be open with regular hours on July 4 and 5.
  • The Calvert Marine Museum will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 4 and 5. The museum store will also be open from 10:15 a.m.-4:45 p.m.
  • The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter and Animal Control Division will be closed on July 4 and 5. The shelter reopens with normal operating hours on Saturday, July 6.
  • Flag Ponds Nature Park and Kings Landing Park Swamp will be open with normal park hours on July 4 and 5. Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center will be closed on July 4 and 5.
  • Breezy Point Beach & Campground will be open normal hours on July 4 and 5.
  • The Water & Sewerage billing and customer service office will be closed on July 4 and 5. The Solomons Septage Receiving Facility will be closed. On-call crews will be available for water and sewer service emergencies only at 410-535-3491.
  • Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center, Kings Landing and Cove Point Park pools will close at 5 p.m. July 4. Normal operating hours resume Friday, July 5.

Charles County:

The Board of Charles County Commissioners has made a change to the normal operating schedules for the month of July, by adding July 5 as a holiday, to align with the State of Maryland’s closure on that same day. All offices, facilities, and services not listed will be operating their normal hours.

Thursday, July 4 (Independence Day)

  • All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed.
  • The Charles County Landfill and all recycling centers will be closed.
  • Curbside recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed one day for the remaining week, Friday, July 5 through Saturday, July 6.
  • VanGO services will not be operating.
  • The Nanjemoy Community Center, senior centers, Port Tobacco Recreation Center, Elite Gymnastics, and all school-based community centers are closed.
  • All pools will be open noon -5 p.m. for open swim (Lackey, Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, North Point, McDonough, La Plata, and Thomas Stone).
  • Charles County Public Library is closed (All branches).
  • Charles County Department of Health is closed.

Friday, July 5

  • All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed.
  • The Nanjemoy Community Center and senior centers are closed. 
  • Charles County Department of Health is closed.

St. Mary’s County:

  • All St. Mary’s County Government administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. All offices will be open for regular business hours on Tuesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 5.
  • The St. Andrews Landfill, six (6) Convenience Centers, St. Mary’s Transit System (STS) and Statewide Special Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) will be closed (or not operate) on July 4.  The Landfill, the Convenience Centers, the STS, and the SSTAP will be open for normal business hours on July 3 and 5.
  • All three St. Mary’s County library locations (Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown, and Lexington Park) will be closed on July 4. Libraries will operate under normal hours on July 3 and 5.
  • All St. Mary’s County Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler, and Northern) will be closed July 4 and there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries. All centers will operate normally on July 3 and 5.
  • The St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Museums will be open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on July 4.

UPDATE:

All St. Mary’s County Government administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. In addition, both Governor Larry Hogan and the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County announced an additional holiday for Friday, July 5, for state and county employees; state and county administrative offices will be closed July 5.

Landfills and Convenience Centers
The St. Andrews Landfill, six (6) Convenience Centers will be closed July 4. The Landfill and the Convenience Centers will be open for normal business hours July 3 and 5.

Libraries
All three St. Mary’s County library locations (Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown and Lexington Park) will be closed July 4. Libraries will operate under normal hours July 3 and 5.

Recreation and Parks
All St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Park facilities, including museums, parks and the Wicomico Shores Golf Course will operate under regular schedules July 5.

Senior Services
All St. Mary’s County Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler and Northern) will be closed July 4 and 5. There will be no Home Delivered Meals July 4 and 5.

Transit Systems

The St. Mary’s Transit System (STS) and Statewide Special Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) will be closed (or not operate) July 4.  The St. Mary’s Transit System (STS) public routes and the ADA routes will operate July 5, the Statewide Special Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) The SSTAP will not operate July 5.
