News Release, Maryland State Police-La Plata Barracks

On Friday, June 28, 2019, from 11:45 p.m.- 2:30 a.m., Troopers for the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack in conjunction with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and La Plata Town Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol on the Northbound side of MD Route 301 at Jefferson Farm Place, Waldorf, MD.

During the operation, a total of 803 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and an additional thirty vehicles were stopped for numerous traffic violations in the Waldorf area. Nine drivers were arrested and charged with DUI and two individuals were arrested for drug violations.

The DUI checkpoint and saturation patrols are used as a deterrent and are a proven resource in reducing the number of fatalities and injuries caused by an impaired driver. The Maryland State Police want to remind all citizens and motorists, if you plan on consuming alcoholic beverages, please have a designated driver, or use the app to request an Uber/Lyft. The Maryland State Police encourages everyone to obey traffic laws, which in turn makes Maryland roadways safer for travel.
