FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) announced that 1,445 student-athletes were named to the 2018-19 All-Academic Team, an average of over 179 student-athletes per full member institution.
Student-athletes in one or more CAC championship sports that attain a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year earn a spot on the All-Academic team. A total of 51.0% of CAC student-athletes posted a 3.20 GPA this year (1,445 of 2,832).

St. Mary’s College of Maryland came in second with 57.1-percent (165 of 289) of its student-athletes gaining All-Academic Team status. This is the third straight year St. Mary’s College has finished second in terms of percentage of student-athletes making the All-Academic Team. York College of Pennsylvania was the top team for the fourth year in a row with 67.5-percent (278 of 412) of its student-athletes on the academic list. The Seahawks held the top spot for eight years between 2007-08 and 2014-15.

The Seahawk men’s (7) and women’s (14) cross country teams combined for a department-high 21 selections, while the baseball team, under the leadership of third-year head coach Bernie Stratchko, drew a close second with 20. Men’s lacrosse, led by fourth-year head coach Jason Childs, finished third with 19.
In all, eight Seahawk athletic programs had at least 10 student-athletes make the All-Academic Team while 14 St. Mary’s College student-athletes wrapped up their academic careers as four-year members of the All-Academic Team. In addition, 11 St. Mary’s College student-athletes selected to the CAC All-Academic Team earned 4.0 GPAs in the 2018-19 academic year.
