Leonardtown, MD- St. Mary’s County Government celebrated Aviation Day 2019 with a proclamation presentation and UAS aerial demonstration at St. Mary’s County Governmental Center in Leonardtown, Maryland July 30.
Guest speakers included Capt. John Brabazon, NAS Patuxent River executive officer; Gretchen Hardman, Southern Maryland Intergovernmental Affairs representative on behalf of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan; and Matt Scassero, director of the University of Maryland UAS Test site.
National Aviation Day is an observance in the United States that celebrates the development of aviation. It was first established in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt who issued a Presidential proclamation which designated the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday, Aug. 19, to be National Aviation Day. The holiday also encourages citizens to observe the day with activities that promote interest in aviation.
