FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2019 field hockey season. St. Mary’s College first-year forward Celina Kaufman earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while St. Mary’s College sophomore defender Sophie Carlson claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors to give the Seahawks the sweep.

Kaufman led the Seahawks to a 3-0 record during the week and improved the St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey team to 6-0 on the season. The Queenstown, Maryland native led the Seahawks with six points off of three goals. Two of her goals counted as game-winners against Randolph-Macon and Ferrum. Kaufman leads the CAC in goals with six and points with 13.

Carlson led the Seahawks on the defensive end by defeating Randolph-Macon (2-1), Roanoke (2-0), and Ferrum (4-0). The Churchville, Maryland native held down the backline of the Seahawk defense that allowed just one goal in three games. In addition, Carlson registered one shot during the week.

The Seahawk field hockey team currently sits at 6-0 on the year and will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 21) when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 1:00 p.m. game.
