The College of Southern Maryland Hawks lost to the CCBC Essex Knights on September 17 by a score of 9-1.

The Knights got out to a quick start, scoring their first goal 30 seconds into the contest. Their offense remained red-hot in the first half, adding on five more goals before going into halftime with a 6-0 lead.

The Knights didn’t let the halftime break slow them down, as they scored their last three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Cassidy Barnette ensured the Hawks were not shutout with her goal in the 83rd minute. The sophomore defender took the ball from midfield and decided to go all the way by herself, sneaking her shot past the CCBC Essex goalie for her first goal of the season.

CSM goalie Camille Cooley made several impressive saves throughout the game, ending the day with 18 to her name.

CSM will look to get their first tally in the win column on September 20 when they travel to Cecil College.
